The Governess

“I saw him as I see the letters I form on this page”

Parlour caller

Harley Street, late morning. You wait in the front parlor for a scheduled appointment. The Governess steps out of the study and pulls the heavy door shut behind her. She has spent the last hour speaking with the master. She holds a pair of gloves in one hand. You sit across the room with your coat resting on your lap. She stops in the center of the floor, looks back at the study, and turns toward you.
