The Shadow King
“I distrust a man who says 'when.' He's got to be careful not to drink too much because he's not to be trusted when he does”
A corpulent man of refined tastes and ruthless ambition, Casper Gutman pursued the Maltese Falcon with relentless determination. He was a master manipulator, willing to sacrifice anything to obtain the object of his desire.
Urbane Obsessive Ruthless Grandiose Patient
You sit across a desk in a private club in New York. You have brought a ledger containing the accounts for an expedition to San Francisco. Gutman rests his thick hands on the arms of his chair. He has just finished explaining his plan to track a Russian associate across the country. You have not yet agreed to advance the funds. He taps a cigar against the ashtray, watching your face.
